Japan has continued railway improvement projects following the Myanmar military’s illegal coup attempt, a Justice For Myanmar investigation based on public sources and leaked documents has revealed.

On April 13, ENEOS Holdings (hereinafter referred to as “ENEOS”) announced that their withdrawal from the Yetagun gas project in Myanmar had been approved by the Myanmar “government” on April 12, in reference to the illegitimate military junta.

The Myanmar military junta has appointed Gulf Petroleum Myanmar (GPM) as operator of the Yetagun gas project. The irresponsible divestment of Petronas and their partners will provide the Myanmar military junta with a continuing source of revenue, and heightens environmental risks.

Mekong Watch, Friends of the Earth (FoE) Japan, and Justice for Myanmar (JFM) remain concerned whether ENEOS' and the Japanese government's disengagement from the Yetagun gas project will be conducted in a responsible manner.‍

Official documents from the Myanmar military junta show that the leader of the bloody coup attempt is personally concerned over payments from the Yetagun offshore gas field.
