Four years after the junta’s 2021 coup, Myanmar’s military government controls only 21 percent of the country’s territory, while rebel forces and ethnic armies hold 42 percent, according to a 2024 investigation by the BBC.

Justice For Myanmar, an anonymous collective of Myanmar activists, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Right Livelihood Award, also known as the "Alternative Nobel Prize," in recognition of their courageous and pioneering efforts to dismantle the financial networks sustaining the country’s military junta.

Mit dem Right Livelihood Award werden Menschen geehrt, die sich für Frieden, Gerechtigkeit und Nachhaltigkeit einsetzen. Dieses Jahr geht der Preis unter anderem an Klimaschützer aus Ozeanien und eine Programmiererin aus Taiwan.

Der Alternative Nobelpreis ehrt seit 1980 mutige Persönlichkeiten und Organisationen. In diesem Jahr geht er an Initiativen für Klimaschutz und Menschenrechte sowie an eine Person, die Technologien im Sinne des Gemeinwohls einsetzt.

Der Alternative Nobelpreis geht in diesem Jahr an vier Initiativen aus Ozeanien, Sudan, Myanmar und Taiwan.

The Right Livelihood Award was awarded Wednesday to activists from Sudan and Myanmar, where military and political violence devastates communities, to the Pacific Islands, where climate disaster threatens entire nations, and to Taiwan, which is the frequent target of threats and disinformation.

Right Livelihood-priset är ett internationellt pris som instiftades 1980 av den svensk-tyske filantropen Jakob von Uexkull. Det delas ut till personer och organisationer som arbetar praktiskt för att främja mänskliga rättigheter, miljö, fred, social rättvisa och hållbar utveckling.
